Digitalizing emergency response for a safer tomorrow

Swedish SOS Alarm is the national emergency response organization responsible for handling emergency calls in Sweden. They operate the 112 emergency number, coordinating and dispatching services for police, fire departments, and medical emergencies. SOS Alarm also provides public safety information and crisis management services, ensuring a comprehensive response to various emergencies and critical situations across the country.

In 2017, SOS Alarm began transforming their development teams to adopt an agile, flow-optimized approach, where Crowd Collective and Akind became an integral part of their solution. Our effort included guding the client in how to set up the development organisation, establishing the development teams and an agile development processes, staffing the team with a mix of senior consultants from Crowd collective and junior consultants from Academic Work and leading the development work from both a strategical and operational perspective. After thorough coaching the junior consultants where employed by SOS Alarm.

Besides setting the SOS Alarm development organization up for future success, Crowd Collective took part in delivering a real time statistic visualization, a database and external distribution system for third parties and launching the foundation of a new medical decision support system using AI.

Strategic talent supply

A thorough competency inventory revealed a need for broader knowledge dissemination across systems, prompting a strategic reorganization of the development teams as well as hiring of six junior developers as a long term investment.

Successful Transition to Flow Optimization

The project culminated in eliminating personal dependencies, enabling team-based task management, and shifting from resource to flow optimization, enhancing overall efficiency.

Including AI and setting the foundation for the official 112 mobile app

Crowd Collective was an early partner in building the foundation for an AI empowered medical decision support for alarm operators, and responsible for the backend and database for Swedens 112 official app, the most downloaded mobile app within the “News” segment in Appstore, Sweden.
